WHAT NEXT FOR LINDELOF AT OLD TRAFFORD?

Following the signing of French defender Raphael Varane from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer, there is a huge cloud of uncertainty over the future of Central defender Victor Lindelof at Manchester United.

Varane’s arrival at Old Trafford is expected to see the Sweden international defender limited to fewer games and it has drawn a big question mark about his long-term stay at the club. Lindelof was Harry Maguire’s defensive partner under manager Olé Gunnar Solskjær last season but he was shaky at the back in some of their games and there were suggestions that United needed a stronger and more aggressive central defender who would be a better partner to Maguire.

Lindelof is not a tough defender but he has the ability to read games and can psychologically handle strikers. However, his lack of pace is also a problem because he finds it a bit difficult to handle pacy forwards and is usually dribbled past often. Many fans and pundits urged the United board to sign a new defender and they have done so with the summer acquisition of France international star Varane from the Los Blancos.

Varane is expected to arrive at Old Trafford this week and complete his transfer from Madrid to United and it is highly likely that he will walk straight into the starting eleven under Solksjær, who has done well to add to his team’s strength this summer.

With Varane set to now be the permanent Harry Maguire pairing, although it has not yet been mentioned, Lindelof could grow frustrated at Old Trafford and might want to push for a love. The other option he has is to stay put and put in a great challenge to secure his position as the right partner to Maguire at the heart of the United defense.
