LARSSON WANTS LUSTIG BACK IN SWEEDEN

Sweden International and AIK midfielder Sebastian Larsson has welcomed the idea of a return for Mikael Lustig back to his home country. The Celtic right-back will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Currently, there’s no news of a deal being in place for the defender, despite there being just four months remaining on his deal. Celtic upgraded on the right-back positionwith the loan signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jeremy Toljan in the January transfer window. It’s expected that Toljan will push Lustig down the pecking order giving the importance of his signing.

But, if Lustig does eventually leave The Hoops, Larsson believes he’ll always be welcome back in his homeland. Speaking to Swedish media the former Sunderland midfielder talked about a potential return for the decorated full-back. He said he doesn’t know exactly how Lustigsituation looksat Celtic, but it would be good for all Swedes and Swedish football if he moved home, especially if he moves to AIK.

There will be no shortage of admirers for Lustig, as there’s absolutely no denying Lustig’s achievements in the game. He’s been a part of each of Celts seven consecutive league winning campaign. In addition, he has experience of last-16 Champions League football. The closer we get to the end of the season, the lesser his chances of receiving a new contract offer at Celtic gets. ButCeltic may be inclined to keep Lustig as back-up, IncaseChristian Gamboa doesn’t sign an extension at the end of the current campaign.

The Hoops have Anthony Ralston in reserve, with Manny Perez returning from the United states of America after a loan spell.  There’s certainly going to be plenty of back-up next season if Celtic also splash out on a new right-back to replace Toljan. Lustig has stated that he wants to stay at Parkhead. For now, he’ll continue to just pushing on in Celtic’s eight-in-a-row bid. But a decision will soon need to be made.
